“Twitter has sharply escalated its battle against fake and suspicious accounts, suspending more than 1 million a day in recent months, a major shift to lessen the flow of disinformation on the platform, according to data obtained by The Washington Post. The rate of account suspensions, which Twitter confirmed to The Post, has more than doubled since October, when the company revealed under congressional pressure how Russia used fake accounts to interfere in the U.S. presidential election. Twitter suspended more than 70 million accounts in May and June, and the pace has continued in July, according to the data.”

The tech company continues it’s crackdown against fake and bot accounts, Twitter has been suspending more than a million accounts in a day, this move was due to the reports that Russia has used fake twitter accounts to interfere in the United States presidential election, the removal of millions of account might affect the number of monthly users but Twitter has declined to comment on the possible decline of it’s monthly users.
Twitter made public statements that they are targeting accounts that appear to be suspicious, and they are fighting spam and malicious automation there are also many researchers for years have complained that the issue is way more serious, at least on Twitter’s end they are exerting effort on how to keep the platform clean from suspicious, fake and bot accounts.
